Miky Park s an interdisciplinary artist based in Vancouver, Canada and has exhibited in Seoul, Vancouver and Seattle. Born in South Korea, Park received a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada in 2007. While working on her BFA in university, Park started developing her unique painting style. Park continued with her studies and in 2008 she was awarded a MFA from Hongik University in Seoul, South Korea.
Park paints intuitively and uses strong colours. Her works have strong painterly qualities which coveys a sense of texture. However, her painting retains a sense of control as her brush strokes are fine and accurate. Park’s style is also evident in her small-scale sculptures, which are funky and colourful.
Park's attitude is to challenge the impossible. Her long journey has lead her to a point where she examines the many facets of human desire. Her works reflect her specific interest in the world of overt and oppressed desires and through her painting she explores the many facets of this theme. She takes this questioning further as she also seeks to examine eroticism and the uncanny as they present themselves on both a conscious and unconscious level.
Park intends to transcend her personal beliefs and to communicate with her audience through a universal idea, message and concept.
