It is delightful to learn about a female artist whose paintings have broken through the $1 million price point twice. However, it is not the price record that makes Beatriz Milhazes' paintings attractive, it is the vibrant colour and the unique combination of intricate patterns that make her work alluring. Beatriz Milhazes is a Brazilian artist who has gained international interest since 1990s. Her wide appeal across the globe lies in her ability to communicate to audience through a common visual language while maintaining her Brazilian and European heritage.
Milhazes produces about eight paintings a year at her Rio de Janeiro studio. She is represented by a number of galleries around the world. In 2003, she represented Brail at the Venice Biennale and in 2014, had her first solo museum show in the US.
